In another operation, elements of the 3rd Iraqi Army Division captured two suspected ISI terrorists in Ninewa province. One of the individuals is reportedly an ISI emir of Rabiah. The second individual is reportedly providing farmland for caches and a place to conduct ISI meetings.

ISF capture 15 in separate operations

BALAD, Iraq - Iraqi Security Forces captured 15 suspected terrorists and criminals during separate operations in central Iraq. Iraqi Special Operation Forces arrested seven suspected al-Qaeda in Iraq terrorists in Al Radwania. They are believed to be a part of an AQI cell responsible for kidnapping, improvised explosive device operations and attacks against Iraqi and Coalition forces. Al Hillah Special Weapons and Tactics arrested three suspected criminals on Ministry of Interior warrants in the Seddah area. The individuals are suspected of being involved in an attack against a Seddah Iraqi Police station in August 2008 and other attacks against Iraqi and Coalition forces. In another operation, Al Kut SWAT arrested a suspected criminal leader in charge of approximately 100 cell members responsible for transporting weapons in the Shuhada district on a Wasit Provincial warrant. The criminal is said to be the commander who led an ambush against U.S. forces in the Al Anwar district of Al Kut in March 2008. The 8th Iraqi Army captured a Battalion Commander of a criminal element allegedly responsible for extra-judicial killings, IED attacks, and indirect fire attacks against ISF and CF, specifically against Camp Delta in Al Kut. He is also believed to be a facilitator of weapons and IED's. Two additional people were detained. Al Hillah SWAT arrested a criminal cell leader on a MoI warrant in the Hamza area. He is suspected of being involved in the killing of an IP intelligence officer in March 2008 and small-arms fire attacks against ISF and CF.

ISF captures 22 suspected terrorists and criminals in separate operations in northern Iraq

BALAD, Iraq - Iraqi Security Forces captured 20 suspected al-Qaeda in Iraq and Islamic State of Iraq terrorists, and two criminals in separate operations throughout northern Iraq. In Bani Tamin, Muqdadiyah Special Weapons and Tactics captured a suspected criminal cell leader and cell member allegedly involved in sectarian violence, murder and kidnapping. In a separate operation in west Mosul, Iraqi Special Operations Forces served a local warrant for a suspected ISI member believed to be responsible for attacks against Iraqi and Coalition forces. In another operation, ISOF captured three suspected AQI terrorists in Kan'an, approximately 19 km southeast of Baqubah. The individuals are reportedly responsible for mortar and improvised explosive device attacks against the Iraqi Police and Iraqi Army, particularly an IED attack on an IA patrol that killed two IA soldiers. In an operation in east Mosul, ISOF captured a suspected ISI IED cell leader. In a separate operation in east Mosul, ISOF served a local warrant for three suspected ISI members allegedly responsible for emplacing IEDs, robbery, murder and kidnapping for ransom. One of the individuals is said to be the leader of the cell that is responsible for the murder of Iraqi police. In another operation, Bayji SWAT captured a suspected ISI cell leader who is reportedly a weapons trafficker of RKG-3, anti-tank grenades, into Bayji. The individual is also said to be part of a cell that conducts vehicle-borne IED, IED and sniper attacks against Iraqi and Coalition forces. During the operation, SWAT detained another individual said to be a known associate who has reportedly conducted operations with the suspected ISI cell leader. In al Mansur, Mosul SWAT and Iraqi National Police captured seven suspected ISI members. One of the individuals is reported to be an emir of a kidnapping and intelligence cell in west Mosul. Another individual is said to be a mid-level financier and facilitator. A third is believed to be a security emir in west Mosul. The others are said to be ISI fighters. In an operation, arrested three suspected AQI terrorists in Zaganiyah on a Ministry of Justice warrant. One of the individuals is said to be a leader of the cell allegedly responsible for murder, kidnapping and attacks against Iraqi and Coalition forces. Other members of the cell are said to be responsible for displacing and killing local Iraqis, and emplacing IEDs targeting ISF.

I suppose politics does make for strange bedfellows. For twenty years Barack Obama found nothing wrong with the preaching of Rev. Jeremiah Wright however when he began his Presidential run things began to sour. One must think that Obama did more dozing at church than listening to what his former friend and minister was saying. Here are some quotes from Rev. Wright and my comments will be in bold.
“We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye.” REYNOLDS: I see nothing wrong with this statement other than it is the truth. Hiroshima was a necessary evil to end a horrendous war. Back then America knew the price for winning a war. Islam still has that type of reasoning today and they also never bat an eye.
“We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back to our own front yards. America’s chickens are coming home to roost.” (Sep 2001) REYNOLDS: Whatever a man reaps that he will also sow Gal. 6:7. Perhaps the so called racial element is brought forth because Rev. Wright identified South Africans as being . Remember that we also supported the Taliban in their war against Russia in Afghanistan.
“The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing ‘God Bless America.’ No, no, no, God damn America, that’s in the Bible for killing innocent people. God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme.” (2003) REYNOLDS: I take great exception to what Rev. Wright has said here. If he doesnt appreciate what he has here in America let him preach in another nation and discern if he still has the right to say the things he does in another country? He should be ashamed about his God damn America quotes.
“In the 21st century, white America got a wake-up call after 9/11/01. White America and the western world came to realize that people of color had not gone away, faded into the woodwork or just ‘disappeared’ as the Great White West kept on its merry way of ignoring black concerns.” (magazine article) REYNOLDS: That is a racial statement. That is what Obama must have heard somewhere along the way in attending Wrights church. He did not leave after a statement like that but only when it became inconvienant in running for President for these views to become known.
“Racism is how this country was founded and how this country is still run!…We [in the U.S.] believe in white supremacy and black inferiority and believe it more than we believe in God.” (sermon) REYNOLDS: Blacks sold their own into slavery in Africa as they came to the United States. Yet I am not proud as to how America has treated racism over the years. Words like Rev. Wrights though will not heal but widen the division. It also whips up racial hatred instead of his becoming a repairer of the breach (Isaiah 12).
“Barack knows what it means living in a country and a culture that is controlled by rich white people. Hillary would never know that. Hillary ain’t never been called a nigger. Hillary has never had a people defined as a non-person.” REYNOLDS: The word is used by blacks against blacks continually. Im sure Hillary has been called names that were unflattery to her but fanning this kind of hatred does not make it go away either. Instead, Its flames are flames of fire, a most vehement flame Song of Sol. 8:6. For those blacks that make it in society, when they move away, they are also cursed by the lower income blacks. Racism should never be preached from the pulpit and it is more than obvious that Obama knew how his pastor felt for all those years he sat under his teachings. Why he didnt leave after that statement is anyones guess but I suppose that he wasnt running for the highest office in the land then so the personal stakes were not that high.
“Hillary is married to Bill, and Bill has been good to us. No he ain’t! Bill did us, just like he did Monica Lewinsky. He was riding dirty.” (sermon) REYNOLDS: Yes, Bill Clinton ran to the beat of his own drum. However Clinton wouldnt have such good standing with black America if he always did what was not right for their interests.
“The Israelis have illegally occupied Palestinian territories for over 40 years now. Divestment has now hit the table again as a strategy to wake the business community and wake up Americans concerning the injustice and the racism under which the Palestinians have lived because of Zionism.” REYNOLDS: Read your Bible, Rev. Wright because you are WRONG! Israels territory spanned almost the entire mideast in the early days of the history of Israel and ever since they have been pushed further and further back. The Palistinians never had a territory to begin with and if Islam really cared for this people they would insert them into better regions of almost any Islamic nation instead of the worthless tract of land they now find themselves on. Without Israels financial support the Palistinians would starve to death, not to mention that of the United States. If Obama didnt leave under a statement like that, why would he leave now?
Barack Obama stood pat for twenty years of this type of preaching and it was only when Wrights racism came under fire that he opted to leave. Then he tried to justify it by saying that it wasnt always like that, but it was, only then your interests werent challenged. Stand up to the truth, Mr. Obama!
By the way, had Mike Huckabee been the Republican candidate for President I would also have challenged his pastor, Kenneth Copeland, for his views as well. His doctrine is even more error prone than that of Wrights.

As the fall campaign gets underway in earnest and both sides launch increasingly negative television ads, both John McCain and Barack Obama are pursuing a similar two-pronged strategy on the airwaves.

One set of commercials airs in heavy rotation on network affiliates in battleground states across the country, their incessant repetition aimed at penetrating the consciousness of casual voters.

Then there are the other ads if they can even be called that.

Aimed at driving the conversation online and on cable news where the day-in, day-out campaign is increasingly fought these spots amount to video press releases.

They may be designed to support the campaigns message of the day, respond to a breaking news story or hit back against the oppositions attack.

But what they all have in common is that, despite being released to the media as ads that will ostensibly air on television, they receive little or no time on the airwaves as actual commercials.

Anecdotally, an entire morning spent watching nothing but network television programming on the near-saturated Youngstown and Cleveland affiliates would suggest this to be the case. The national and local morning shows, followed by women-oriented talk programs, feature a steady diet of the same spots over and over, with little deviation.

The empirical evidence affirms the observation.

Take last Sunday, September 14.

According to Evan Tracey, head of the ad-tracking Campaign Media Analysis Group, Barack Obama aired a total of 1,589 commercials nationwide that day.

Of these, 1,146 were Obamas s Over, an ad that mocks McCains claim that special interests wont have sway when hes president by pointing out that the Republican nominee has many advisers or are or were lobbyists. Another 310 were of Obamas Real Change, which features him talking to the camera and outlining his differences with Republicans.

On the same day, McCain aired 1,490 ads. 745 were his Original Mavericks, a spot designed to portray the Arizona senator and his running mate Sarah Palin as anti-establishment crusaders. McCain also showed 544 times, an ad mocking Obamas convention speech and tagging him as just another liberal senator.

Not on the air Sunday, however, were the very ads that have been shaping much of the recent campaign coverage.

That retro ad from Obama featuring the Zack Morris-sized cell phone, primitive computer and Rubiks cube aimed at framing McCain as old and out of touch?

Didnt air once, according to Tracey.

Those two ads meant to garner sympathy for Palin as a victim of sexist attacks, the first featuring a pack of wolves and the other noting Joe Biden had called her

Never ran on tv, said Tracey.

These ads are basically for the presss consumption, he observed. re lobbing discussion items into the echo chamber with the goal of getting them to debate the most negative caricature they can come up with.

And the campaigns, Tracey continued, recognize that whats likely to get play online and on conflict-driven cable news stations arent substantive issue disagreements.

They put out all the things people can latch onto as emotional. For Obama, thats sex ed and for McCain thats that he cant use a computer.

All of this costs next to nothing. Thanks to modern technology, it costs the campaigns little to quickly crank out the spots and pop them on YouTube. And, with websites and TV stations playing them for free, they dont bother spending much if any cash to put them on the air.

Both campaigns are guarded about their advertising strategy, reluctant to talk about it for fear of even offering a peak of their playbook to the opposition. Neither offered comment for this story.

However, a handful of seasoned political pros from both parties who are sitting this presidential race out explained the bifurcated ad approach taken by McCain and Obama, describing it as a result of a media beast that is now ever-more sprawling, fragmented, impatient and video-hungry.

In the past, campaigns would do the show me buys specifically designed to generate free press and help win the daily news cycle, said Chris Lehane, a top aide on Al Gores 2000 campaign. Eventually, the press caught on and stopped covering the ads.

Now, there are two factors at play that keep them alive, Lehane said.

The ads have become far more provocative and entertaining, making it really hard to ignore them, he noted, citing McCains now-famous ad in August comparing Obama as a vacuous celebrity a la Britney Spears and Paris Hilton.

Further, Lehane observed, there is such a comprehensive media environment between the traditional media and online media that these pieces get picked up and end up impacting the daily news cycle.Think news cycles within news cycles - like the small hands of a clock turning the bigger hands - and that is how these spots work.

Heath Thompson, a Republican media consultant, agreed, suggesting the tail is now wagging the dog.

"With cable news stations, talk radio, and blogs driving news coverage like never before, the advent of the 'video press release' was inevitable, he said in an email. They provide ready-made content for internet, radio and cable. And because those mediums now drive network coverage as much as the other way around, it allows campaigns to get their message out more than they ever would of off a print release.

And the difference between a real spot and one that will never actually have any points -- or purchased air time -- behind it is immaterial, Thompson said, because of the expansive and voracious media.

Whether or not a specific spot is a video press release or real tv spot is a sound only dogs can hear (And maybe a few well informed reporters). As long as they get covered, it doesn't matter. And today's news cycle in presidential campaigns is too competitive for them not to.

Further, Americans no longer get their news on politics or anything else from three network newscasts and their local paper. The proliferation of outlets which influence the electorate has spurred the campaigns to produce ads that are more likely to break through the conventional clutter and cross the all-important threshold from serious news to pop culture.

The computer skills and good looking comments are great fodder for cable outlets and shows on said Scott Howell, a longtime GOP ad maker. These things also make for good parody on the late night talk shows I can see skits on SNL and jokes by Letterman and Leno based on these items.

With all the competing demands on voters time and the many mediums from which they now get information, the campaigns are open to any avenue that get their preferred narrative across.

The goal in all of this get noticed, added Howell. Make news. Get into peoples living rooms, be the topic of conversation at work. Get noticed and you impact the debate. Impact the debate and you move numbers.

There is a difference, also, between the nature and timing of the message each campaign wants to convey.

Starting with free media, they can cement negative frames against the opposition, ingraining in the minds of voters the notion that, say, Al Gore is a serial exaggerator, George W. Bush is a dimwitted frat boy and John F. Kerry an effete snob.

As much as consultants hate to admit this - the free press has a greater impact than the traditional paid media -- and even more so in today's multi-media age, said Lehane. Thus, the use of the provocative and compelling internet ad is used to help drive the storyline in the campaign as there is a recognition that the narrative is inherently defined, shaped and driven by free media.

If the narrative holds and voters are seen as susceptible to believing the line of attack, a real ad campaign could follow along these lines.

Its a mentality of, lets throw these five things against the wall and see what sticks, said Howell.

Both Howell and Lehane concur that the made-for-free media ads provide a safer avenue to get a harsher, more hard-edged message in circulation without spending precious dollars on an ad campaign that could also drive up the negatives of the candidate on offense.

Campaigns sometimes feel constrained about the character attack spots and how the broader public will respond, Lehane noted. Thus, the Internet ads serve as a way to do the character attacks. Its the garrotte approach as opposed to the bludgeon over the head.

Our campaign teams economic brain trust has crafted an alternative approach that we believe will be attractive to America, consistent with our constitution and right in line with our libertarian ideals. Our plan completely rids America of federal income taxes and the I.R.S., while at the same time restoring power to the American people at the state and local level - just as our founding Fathers intended.
We propose eliminating the income tax and all other sources of federal tax revenues, including payroll taxes, excise taxes and import duties, and replacing it with only one tax: a tax on each state in proportion to its population, with each state deciding for itself how to raise its share of the money.
Not only would this eliminate taxes on income by the United States federal government, it would likely end taxation on income in virtually all states in this country. Most states calculate their own income taxes starting with the taxpayers calculation of Federal taxable income. It would be too costly for most states to enact their own income tax systems without being able to leverage the current system of W2s and 1099 filings.
To further reduce the likelihood of even some states imposing income taxes on their residents, if elected I will ask Congress to introduce legislation to update Public Law 86-272 to prohibit states from taxing the business activity of any person or enterprise engaging in interstate commerce, and define this broadly enough to include even the solicitation of customers in more than one state.
Our Founding Fathers understood the power of the purse as an instrument of tyranny. Today, because the U.S. Government taxes its citizens and then kicks back a portion of the money to the states (as it sees fit), the federal government exercises enormous unconstitutional power against the states through various federal mandates, ranging from No Child Left Behind to Real ID. Todays regime of personal income taxation facilitates this mockery of our system of Federalism.
Our vision for dramatic change in U.S. tax policy is as simple as it is revolutionary in scope. With our plan there will be only 50 taxpayers in our country writing checks to the U.S. Treasury each year. With no other source of revenue to the U.S. Government, the balance of power would be forever dramatically reversed back to the states (just as our Founding Fathers envisioned).
Moreover, because these 50 states (and their taxpayers) will have a bias toward keeping tax dollars at home instead of sending them to Washington, they will have great incentive to mount enormous political pressure against Congress to reduce the size of government- thereby reducing both spending and taxes.
Some of the unnecessary and wasteful federal spending that would be first on the chopping block for this President (a perfect description for the son of a butcher) would be welfare, entitlements of all kinds including corporate welfare, dramatic cuts in foreign aid, a dramatic reduction in military bases across the globe, and dramatic cuts in wasteful pentagon spending. Its high time to stop spending billions of our tax dollars to defend wealthy allies such as Japan, South Korea and Western Europe.
Its time to de-fund and eliminate entire government departments and bureaucracies - starting with the Dept of Education (which is not authorized or mentioned in our constitution). The first step toward improving our education system (and saving our tax dollars) is to keep the money at the state and local level, giving less power to the federal government and teachers unions, and more power, freedom and choice to parents.
Under this plan, if Congress chose not to reign in out-of-control federal spending, it runs the risk that states could respond by withholding taxes from the federal government, which is the ultimate “check and balance.”
Power would be restored to the states, just as Thomas Jefferson envisioned when he authored the Declaration of Independence. Jefferson, arguably the most libertarian President in United States history, declared the primary responsibility of the American President was “to render ineffective and invisible the very government he is elected to lead.”
Jefferson and the Founding Fathers intended for taxes to be minimal and up to each state to decide. Jefferson said of taxes, “Government shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned.” Jefferson believed taxes were completely up to the discretion of individual states when he said, “The true theory of our constitution is that states are independent as to everything within themselves” and even went so far as to recognize the right of states to nullify federal laws within their own borders, describing federal intrusion into state matters as “interference by a foreign government.”
Our founding father Thomas Jefferson would certainly approve of this plan to switch the power of taxation and spending decisions from the federal to the state level.
With this one sweeping change, devolving power from Washington to the states, tax and regulatory policy at the state level takes on greater importance. In this environment, competition amongst the states for business and residents would likely become fierce. States that impose high taxes or forms of taxation unpopular with their residents will be punished with losses in population. States that create an environment of low taxation and fair forms of taxation will be rewarded with population gains. Taxpayers will be better able to monitor how their money is spent up close and personal at the state and local level. A major shift of all taxation (and most spending) from the distant and draconian federal level to the state level can only be positive for the American taxpayer.
We believe this arrangement is exactly what our Founding Fathers intended - more power at the state and local level, less power at the federal level, and taxation determined by each individual state. This plan respects our Constitution, expands your personal freedom, restores power to the American people (and taxpayers), and increases the money you keep in your wallet.
