Note in the story how this was NOT the first indication that the
guy is a power-happy fascist. So, does the system try to keep such
people out, or does it just try to keep them from getting CAUGHT
being fascist pigs? I would suggest the latter.
(Keep in mind, in the settlement for that case, "government" paid
NOTHING. "Government" has nothing to give. It stole money from
OTHER people, and gave it to the victim of the fascist thuggery.
I'm not saying she didn't deserve it; I'm saying the ones who PAID
it--you and me--weren't the ones who did her harm. I would have
loved to see the fascist himself be forced to sell everything he
has and give her the proceeds--and then get flung in a cage.)
In story after story, cops commit lawless thuggery, LIE about it,
and then find out that it was caught on tape. Then they "cooperate"-
- -once they know they're sunk--and get credit for doing so. The
system defends and protects its thugs, until their evil is too
obvious for the public to miss. Then, and only then, will the
system hang an individual thug or two out to dry, as if they are
the only problem.
The potential harm that can be caused by "authority" dwarfs what
the average crook can do. Imagine if that lady had been put in a
cage for 15 YEARS, based on the fascist's bald-faced lie. (I only
did a year based on fascist lies myself.) And since, as recent
stories have shown, cops seem perfectly willing to lie to protect
their fellow gang members, it often makes resisting police abuse
rather hazardous.
So do cops and their bosses actually object to police brutality and
abuse? As far as I can tell, they object to being CAUGHT, and
that's about it. They consistently lie, insult, threaten, and
assault, until they're caught on tape. Then, and ONLY then, do they
show "remorse," which shows only that they're sorry they got
CAUGHT. While the public gets upset when they see example of the
"bad apples" on the police force, I see little or no evidence that
those who run the system mind it at all... except when they get
caught. Yeah, they publicly act surprised and offended at the
"abuse," but only after all hope of cover-up, excuses and lies is
gone.
What would we see if even 50% of cops actually gave a damn about
individual liberty, constitutional rights, truth and justice? We'd
see cops getting fired every other day. When FIVE Tennessee "law
enforcers" (power-happy thugs) get caught TORTURING a guy to get
his "consent" to search his home, that means that there are a lot
more "bad apples" than government would have us believe. If there
was a "good cop" on the scene, what would he have done? Well, if he
was ACTUALLY good, he would at the very least have exposed the
abuse after the fact, and if he had a spine, he would have done
whatever it took to STOP the other cops from being sadistic thugs.
So how many cops would do that? Why have I NEVER heard of that
happening? Like those in the military, partly because of training
and partly because of circumstance, "government" enforcers always
evolve into a gang which cares far more about defending the gang
than it does about doing the right thing. (The mass murder down in
Waco is a particularly heinous example of this.)
Of the recent wave of examples of police abuse that have come out,
how many were exposed by fellow cops? I know of none. Is it because
they never NOTICE their fellow officers abusing people? Of course
not. Is there any cop anywhere who has never at least once seen
other cops illegally abusing people? I doubt it. So where are the
"good cops" exposing that kind of thing--I mean BEFORE someone else
catches them? Can you think of a single case of that? I can't. Why
not? They've ALL seen the abuse, and NONE of them expose it. Why is
that?
It's because if, as a cop, you don't at least look the other way,
if not participate yourself in the thuggery, your chances of
remaining a cop are slim to none. No street gang would allow its
members to say bad things about it, and neither would the street
gang which calls itself "the police." The fact that there ARE
"Internal Affairs" units at all, which are usually resented by all
the other cops, makes it pretty obvious that most cops are NOT
going to "tell" on each other, no matter what they do. They have
sworn to "protect and serve" their gang, and that's exactly what
they do. If there are only a few "bad apples," and if most cops are
honest and good--if ANY cops are honest and good, in fact--why
aren't THEY the ones exposing police misconduct? They have a front
row seat to all of it, yet their lips remain sealed.

Yours truly had the experience of watching the Obama acceptance speech in Seattle last night with about 500 dyed-in-the-wool supporters. The reason this McCleary boy ventured up to the big city to hear this speech was not exactly clear to me when I went. One reason was that I heard there would be beer there. Generally that is a powerful "Matt attractant" in itself but there was more to the 120 mile round trip than that. I just couldn't give words to it.
It might help to know that I had not taken a big gulp from the Obama Kool-aid bucket yet. I have certainly witnessed the snowballing effect his campaign has taken with people around me from all walks of life. I wanted to like the Kool-aid, but couldn't get there.
I have been an Edwards fan. I liked the message he carried about the worlds richest getting that way on the backs of the every day working stiff. When he was out my philosophy turned to "any blue will do" because ANYBODY would be better than the status quo.
I worried that Obama didn't have the roll-a-dex that any president would need to draw on to bail us out of the mess this nation is in. Even a great player needs a great team and great coaches to pull off the big game. I didn't think Obama had been around enough to have made the connections he would need. I make it a point to talk to as many folks as I can about what they think. My favorites are people who don't pay that much attention to politics and kind of play it by their gut. Virtually everyone I ask agrees that the country is in a world of hurt. Who's fault they think it is varies greatly. There are lots of them that were allot more unsure than I have been about what they were going to do come election time.
As I listened to Barack Obama give his acceptance speech, I watched the hundreds of people in the room nod their heads in agreement, many shed tears as their experience was validated by what Barack was saying. Then I realized that my head was nodding too. As he described the nation and world he saw and the problems we all face, I found myself thinking, "yup, that is exactly how it is" or "bam, he hit that one out of the park". He and his team have negotiated this campaign and this important moment in time masterfully. I found myself very impressed with the grace and dignity with which he communicated what was probably the most important moment in his life. There was no "fear tactics", and very little emphasis on blame for the situation. Rather, a focus on optimism and faith in the hope that what has always made us great will get us through this too. if we focus on the moment instead of getting caught up in distractions we can move forward. I like that message, and when I think about it that approach has always worked for me personally.
After Barack concluded and I was driving home I realized another reason besides the beer that had gotten me up to the big city I would usually avoid like the plague. Dr. Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech was given 40 years ago last night. I have always held Dr. Kings words with great reverence. It has always been the most powerful piece of oration I have ever heard, with a message that can still bring a tear to my eye. Barack is being compared to JFK, and Dr. King by the media quite often. I have always thought that that was a bold comparison. I wanted to hear Barack say what he had to say on this symbolic day and bring it on. If he could impress me enough to allow his name in with the likes of Dr. King, then my figurative hat is off to him.
Well readers(both of you;-), I believe he did it. There was a different style, in a different time. And he did that by showing the ultimate respect for Dr. King by not trying to exploit the day. He only vaguely made reference to Dr. King in the speech but, for me, he captured the same elements of goodness, style and faith in the American people that Dr. King did 40 years ago.
The gift that both Obama and Dr.King have is that they were both able to inspire this McCleary boy to get off his semi-large arse and do something. The enemy here is, and has always been, the apathy monster, who tricks folks into not participating and letting others make decisions for them. Barack and Dr. King are facilitators, we, the people are the big (I prefer red) wave of Kool-aid that does something to change the status quo. Stay in the moment, keep moving forward...
Turns out I went up there to drink beer, but ended up drinking the Kool-aid.
I hope you listen to the speech. Alia used her technical prowess to provide a link to it in the entry she did prior to this one. I invite your feedback.
Have a great labor day.

The City Council adopts rules curbing the size of remodeled homes on the flatlands and preserving low-income housing, mostly on skid row, that advocates fear are in danger of becoming lofts.

The Los Angeles City Council today approved new rules to address major byproducts of the gentrification that has swept the city: Limiting the size of additions and making it harder for developers to convert low-income housing on skid row into luxury lofts.
The new rules radically limit the size of remodeled homes in the citys flatlands to 3,000 square feet in most cases, curtailing what homeowners say is a plague of behemoth, ugly stucco boxes that are killing neighborhood character.
On the other end of the spectrum, council members voted to preserve more than 18,700 units in residential hotels, mostly located downtown, that advocates worry are in danger of being turned into luxury lofts or condos.
Both measures were controversial and required heavy negotiation among activists, property owners and members of the business community. But in both cases, the final unanimous votes heralded an acknowledgment by council members of the incredible pressures that gentrification has exerted on virtually every corner of the city.
When certain neighborhoods have homes on steroids and others no longer have a place for the poor to sleep, the social fabric is torn, said City Council President Eric Garcetti, citing the need for the ordinances.
The city has been criticized for years for not doing more to preserve the look and character of existing neighborhoods against in which property owners demolish original homes and replacement with dwelling often two or three times larger.
Activists have also been alarmed at how the revitalization of downtown L.A. has swept into skid row, leading some owners of the residential hotels that for decades were the domain of the poor to remake their property for the new downtown crowd.
Mercedes Marquez, the general manager of the citys housing department, said the double action represented a move to make sure that everybody has a say and stake in the city.
The mansionization law was first proposed more than three years ago. Residents complained that the character of their neighborhoods is being destroyed by behemoth houses that dwarf the scale of other residences.
Mark Lipis of Westwood brought council members poster-size photos of his neighbors house, which he described as a 6,500-square-foot behemoth with a roof deck and an elevator.
The law would effect more than 304,000 lots in the flatlands of Los Angeles, most of the citys single-family homes.
No neighborhood is immune to the loss of character and diminishment of privacy, said Mike Buhler, director of advocacy for the Los Angeles Conservancy. The impact of huge new homes cannot be overstated.
Building industry and real estate representatives, on the other hand, warned that the law would drive down property values and hurt Los Angeles economy. They also decried what they said was the laws one-size-fits-all policy.
The mansionization ordinance passed 12-0. Council members Weiss, Bernard Parks and Garcetti were all absent for the vote; Garcetti, who made an appearance in support of the ordinance, was on jury duty today.
The residential hotel ordinance passed 13-0, with Parks and Garcetti absent. It replaces a temporary ordinance that the council approved in 2005, when there was a growing concern that available housing for the poor especially in downtown Los Angeles was rapidly dwindling amid the gentrification of historic neighborhoods. That ordinance was set to expire later in the month.
The new law protects units in the 336 single-room-occupancy and residential hotels across the city, most of which are privately owned. Owners who wish to convert their buildings may only do so if they meet a strict set of guidelines requiring them to replace the residential units within two miles of their building or pay a fee that would provide for acquisition of a new site plus 80% of the cost of constructing new units.
Seven residential hotels in the city have more than 250 units, and owners of those units would only be allowed to convert 80% of their building to market-rate units.
Activists supporting the new law said that it provides strong protections for the citys poorest. It also includes incentives to improve the living conditions for the aging properties.
We feel like its a strong victory for tenants, one of the first victories for tenants in quite a while, said Becky Dennison of the Los Angeles Community Action Network, one of several dozen community organizations supporting the measure.
City officials said that the ordinance was one way that they could protect housing for the citys poorest without spending city dollars in the midst of a severe revenue shortage.
Given the crisis we have, this is one thing we can do without having to put in money we dont actually have, said Marquez. This is what we can do. It will go further than we ever have before in protecting the rights of tenants, particularly the very poor.
Veronica Perez Becker, vice president of legislative affairs for the Central City Assn., a business advocacy group, called the new ordinance a flexible policy that takes into account the needs of the business community.
Perez Becker said that the ordinance allows revitalization to continue in part because there are provisions allowing owners to convert their buildings if they follow a strict set of rules.
The owner of the Cecil Hotel downtown did take issue with his buildings designation as a residential hotel. In recent months, the Cecil has been the target of activists who allege that the owners have conducted prejudiced and illegal housing practices.
But Michael Ross told the council that most of his hotels guests are tourists. We havent been given due process, he said, adding that the ordinance would give L.A. control over our property without recourse.
Jane Usher, head of the citys Planning Commission, said that both ordinances were important to Los Angeles future. Both represent an understanding of the needs of our residents, she said. The city needs to be home to people of every income, and these measures foster that.

But when they included my state return they charged me $30.00. So I deleted the state return and just file my federal return for free. Please help because the due date is tomorrow!
ArrayOpen Question: California state tax return help?I filed a IRS tax form...I filled out my form using online service. My federal tax form was accepted by IRS. I chose mail option...so, I mailed my tax form to IRS.
My state tax form is accepted by california state. Do I still have to print out the form and mail it to state?? When I checked my refund status, it said:
Please read the following information related to your tax situation:
Tax Topic 203 - Failure to Pay Child Support, Federal Non-Tax and State Income Tax Obligations
Your refund may be reduced to pay a past due obligation such as child support, another federal agency debt, or state income tax. If this applies to you, the Financial Management Service, who issues IRS refunds, will send you a notice informing you of any offset they have made. The details of the debt are not provided to the IRS. What is this means?? I am single with no children. I dont have any debt. Does anyone knows this means?? What should I do??

ArrayResolved Question: Tax experts...help!!?I am working on my tax return online now, and it says I am only getting back $969!! My federal withheld is: $2,228!! Shoudnt I be getting back close to $2,000? I dont understand why Im only getting back half. I have 401K this year, could that be why? Other than that, everything else is the same as last year except the income amount of course.
Judy, I DO understand all that. What I DONT understand is since the government took out $2,000, why they are only giving me back half that amount. Im not getting a full refund!?
I made about $20, 064 last year. Not sure if this helps.
ArrayVoting Question: tax professionals, i need your help!!!?ok so i was just doing my taxes and my boyfriends taxes online. we thought we might owe a little bit of money because we found out half way through last year that our company admittingly screwed up on taxing us and so everyone im sure can understand our frustration. so i am getting a return on federal but i think i may owe like $30 to state. not bad! well on my bf return unexpectantly we owe $1700 and i think $600 to state. its obviously way to much money to just pay out of our bank account. we knew our company messed up but we never imagined it this bad. so my question is, does the federal IRS take payments on taxes owed? im really scared because like i said, we dont have this kind of money. please if anyone knows???
ArrayResolved Question: Tax refunds mailed overseas?Need some help here please. Read carefully:-My brother immigrated to Australia in Jan of this year. He lived in Alabama for all of 2007 and is an American citizen.
-His W2s from his jobs were mailed to my house here in Alabama.
-My brother did his taxes online, printed out his forms and mailed them to me so I could attach his W2s and send his taxes in for him. His forms just arrived....
-However, he put the return address in Australia which worried me so I asked him why he just didnt put this address and let me mail him his refund. He said Turbo Tax asked where he would like his refund mailed to and it gave the option for a foreign address. I checked this out for myself and they do give that option. Turbo Tax also keeps up with all the latest tax laws so my question is....Will the Federal and State governments mail his refund to him in Australia or will they reject his return?(And yes, I could call the IRS in the morning but then you wouldnt have a question to answer!)
LOL Thanks, v.b., but my mom lives over there too and she didnt have a prob with hers getting cashed. They just hold it for a couple of weeks.
(She had a friend mail her refund check to her...not the IRS)
Thanks Jss, but he doesnt have a bank acct in the US. He plans on residing in Australia permanently.

ArrayResolved Question: Why do I owe? 0 Exemptions and lots of deductons?Married, no kids, filing jointly. The software I use and some online calculators agree that I owe - but I cant pass the sanity check when I take into account how much we paid.~$140k AGI split between my wife and I.
Both had w4 marked for 0 exemptions and $10 extra.
$20k paid in mortgage interest 2007.
She had $18k in 1099-MISC, but paid $3600 of estimated (overpaid). We got it down to owing Federal only $2k, but the is the first time we owe, and we expected a healthy return...So all I can think of is to withhold at single rate while married, anything to do to prevent owing again? Did I do something wrong or have we just hit a new tax bracket the our jobs dont account for when withholding? Thanks in advance.

ArrayResolved Question: Can I correct my tax return after I already filed it?I filed my federal tax return online some time last week (form 1040A). However, I declared my scholarships as income, but someone told me that I should not have done that because the scholarships were tax free. Is there some way to correct my tax return so my scholarships are not included as income?
ArrayVoting Question: Taxes-Federal, State?I have filed Federal Taxes for 2007 and already have my return from the Feds. I have a need to file state taxes (MN AZ). I used turbo tax free online and it did everything for me but it gave me two options whether to e-file (this needs a complete submission including Federal Return, which i dont want) the other option is to file by mail for respective states (i have the print out copy) now do i need to send those filled application along with a copy of my W-2?
I provided my account information for a direct deposit which turbo tax took it online but it doesnt show any information in the printed forms just the last four digits of my ac no. What do i need to do in this case? Send voided check and W-2 to respective states? What happens if i e-file the whole thing?
ArrayResolved Question: Can someone help me file my state taxes online what all do i need for instance I am trying dont know if i got?everything filled out right for instance 5. tax from federal return (Do not enter amount from your Form W-2 (s) NOT federal tax withheld) Enter on line 5. ArrayVoting Question: Federal tax return - how to file with foreign address?I earned in the US for a couple of months in 2007 after which I relocated abroad. I do not have any complicated deductions to be made etc - so I can file by myself online. Now the question is what should I give as the address in Form 1040 EZ - my current (foreign) address or the address I used to live in when I was in the US?
I have to add that I was and am not a US resident and that I was on an L1 Visa.
ArrayResolved Question: Is EXPRESS 1040 online tax filing legitimate?I have found an online company called Express 1040 that is willing to e-file my federal tax return for me for free. I would have to pay for state taxes and any other services. I have filled out the information on it, but got nervous about the whole thing when a prompt came up asking me if I want my refund to be directly deposited to my account. Has anyone ever heard of these guys? Are they legit? Does the goverment actually offer direct deposits for your return?
ArrayResolved Question: 2007 Federal Income Tax Return - W2 Question?Im about to file 2007 Federal tax return. But I have question before I submit my return to IRS (paper return, not online).I have copy (xerox copy) of W2 form. I misplaced my original W2 form that I got from my employer. My question is, Is it okay to submit xerox copy of W2 with my tax return to IRS? I want to confirm that to avoid any IRS penalties.Thank you,Samir
ArrayResolved Question: Did a mistake on my 1040EZ screw me over last year?Something wasnt adding up when i did my taxes and since this is the first time Ive done them Im worried. I am using Turbo Tax online. I dont own a house, single, 22, dont have loans just think of me as a part time student who works in the summer and winter. My wages came to $10,807 with $1047.70 withheld in federal income tax. My refund comes out to $844. I also recorded $2,977 I made through unemployment with $299 fed income withheld since I made my unemployment income taxable On last years return I only got back $576 yet I made $10,806 with $1,144 withheld. I didnt do my taxes last year, a family member did. So can I really be making almost $300 more this year or am I doing something wrong? I just dont want to get into trouble. On my EZ form last year it says the following in line 5: If no one can claim you enter $8,450 if single but the person who did my taxes entered $5,150 in that line.
ArrayResolved Question: Does $844 seem like a correct federal return amount for my wages?Im doing my taxes for the first time but I am using Turbo Tax online provided through my bank. Anyway, I dont own a house, dont have loans or this or that, just think of me as a part time student who works in the summer and winter. My wages came to $10,807 with $1047.70 withheld in federal income tax. This has my refund being $844. On last years return I got back $576 yet I made $10,806 with $1,144 withheld. I didnt do my taxes last year, a family member did. So can I really be making almost $300 more this year or am I doing something wrong. i just dont want to get into trouble.
I also 2,977 I made through unemployment with 299 fed income withheld since I made my unemployment income taxable
ArrayResolved Question: Is it normal to only receive a partial Tax Return?I filed my tax returns online about a week ago and this morning I only received about 150$ of what was supposed to be a 650$ Tax return directly deposited into my account, do state and federal tax returns come separate?
ArrayResolved Question: i need to print a state tax form?i have filed my federal return online now i need to fill out my state form but icant find it so i can print it and file it
ArrayResolved Question: Can I deduct both state tax paid and tax withheld during the year?I am re-filing my 2006 taxes. On my 2006 State and Local Tax Deduction Worksheet (which I got from my Turbotax software) it asks you to enter 3 things and then add them up to get my total federal deduction for line 5 of the Itemized Deductions sheet for my federal 1040:1. State income tax withheld during 2006
2. Amount paid with 2005 state income tax return filed in 2006
3. Local tax paid for year 2005 during 2006When I add them up, it is adding both my withholding and my actual tax paid for the previous year. This doesnt sound entirely correct to me. I am not entirely certain that the tax witholding should be added into this number but the form I am filling out clearly says to do so.Is this correct? Note: I filed my 2007 taxes with the online version of 2007 turbotax and it still added my state tax deduction this way and so I tend to trust this figure. Can anyone answer this for sure?
You are giving me close answers but what I really need to know is whether or not I can add together state tax witheld during 2006 and 2005 state tax paid during 2006. Can I or not? The turbotax worksheet clearly implies that these need to be added together and turbotax actually added them together when I did my 2007 taxes with turbotax online.
I suspect that on the worksheet that where it says Amount paid with 2005 state income tax return, what it really means is Amount of net tax due that you paid with your 2005 income tax return . Think this is likely to be the case?
Hypothetically, lets say I had $4000 withheld for state taxes during 2006. Also, during 2006 I may have paid $3500 in taxes, but I had a refund and zero tax due. Lets say I also paid $200 in local taxes. The question now is what is my state and local tax deduction:A. $4000+$0+$200
B. $4000+$3500+$200
C. $3500+$0+$200
In the hypothetical example above I meant that during 2006, I may have paid $3500 in 2005 state tax along with my 2005 state tax return, which netted me a $500 refund during 2006.

ArrayResolved Question: Confused about federal tax refund amount differences between different free e-file services?! HELP!?Okay, so I e-filed my federal taxes through hr block online (i was directed from the IRS site to a list of free online filing services), and my refund was 487 dollars, according to them. seemed a little low, but i trusted they were right. well, i got my federal refund, and just now e-filed my state return. According to the site I filed my state return with (taxengine.com), I actually should have received a federal refund of 792 dollars!!!! I also got this same estimate from a crappy free-file site (taxsimple.com) that I tried right before taxengine and gave up on. So my question is, did HR Blocks online filing rip me off for almost half my tax refund, or am I missing something here? How can I find out if they scammed me, and if they did, what can I do about it? Any advice is greatly appreciated, as Im totally perplexed. Thanks!!!

And what else do I need besides my W2 and 1099?

ArrayResolved Question: Federal tax return is ACCEPTED but state tax return is NOT?I received an email from HR stating that my Federal return was accepted but my New York return was not accepted. I get the message below:E-filed Return Processing Issue
Were unable to process your return(s) electronically. Your tax return can still be filed. However, youll need to print and mail your returns to the federal and state taxing authorities. Instructions of where to mail are included in your tax return(s). You must correct your tax return and resubmit it.What would be the reason for this? It doesnt state any specific reason aside from processing issue. I wouldnt have bothered filing it online (my first time) if I had known I would have to go through this.

ArrayResolved Question: Need help filing taxes online, invalid FIN?Hey,
Im 18, and this is my first actual filing. Ive started the process through an efiler, freetaxusa.com. I entered my w-2 information, as well as 1 of 2 1099-MISCs. The problem I am encountering is on one of the 1099-MISCs, the payers federal identification number keeps returning as invalid. I called the person to double check the number printed on the 1099, and its the same. I tried to research on the internet, and was able to find that several starting number combinations are invalid, and this one starts with it (17). What can I do? Thanks
ArrayResolved Question: I filed my State taxes wrong! HELP!!!!!!?I filed my taxes around 1am online and went to bed, when I woke up I looked over everything I did and I realized I screwed up big time. One of the questions asked was IT-1040ES Estimated Payments Amount and for some reason I entered my federal income withheld. I dont know how I made that mistake. Like I said, it was late and I was half asleep. Then it asked, IT-40P Payments and I entered my State income tax. For some reason I mustve thought it was asking me how much I was withheld from federal and state. I confirmed everything and its filed. Its Sunday so I dont know if they saw it yet but I really need to know how I can fix this. Do I need to call someone? What will happen to me since I messed up so badly? It says my return is a little over 1,200 and I only paid 177 for state taxe. Please help ASAP!!

ArrayResolved Question: I filed my state taxes using 2 different online sites and got 2 different refund amts?If I file a nonresident return the amount that state can tax is based on what is made in that state right, not federal amount filed right, wrong? See, one of the returns has the federal total income and the other only requires the state income. But they are both state apps. What is up? Which way is right? I havent completed either one yet because I dont know what to do.
No not blonde, but the one with the lower refund is HR Block, the higher is the state site. How can HR Block not be right?
yeh, it was the fed amt, so its fixed now. Why is tax season so stressful!?
ArrayResolved Question: I already filed my taxes for this year for 2007?I just recieded another W2 for my wife for $23K. I corrected the info on Turbo tax and went completly through the interview process. At the end of state questionair there was a ? if I wanted to amend my return so I selected yes. It made me fill out a 140X for for state and Turbo Tax transfered all the information. Now I have to mail file it. On the Federal side it made me fill out a 8453-OL form Tax Declararion for an IRS e-file online return. My question is do I still need to fill out a 1040X? If so how do I do it in turbo tax?
I called Turbo Tax support and they walked me through the process of amending (2007) this years taxes. Yes TT allowed me to amend using 1040X and a 140X for the state. Yes I do have to mail them in by the regular scheduled due date. Thanks for all of the answers to my question.

ArrayResolved Question: Where can I find a quote on getting my taxes done--Federal plus TWO State returns?Im willing to do it myself, with the help of some online software. Or, if the price is right, I would consider letting a CPA do it.
ArrayResolved Question: Anyone know a free service to do taxes online?I went to Irs.gov and checked out the free file sites there. Ive tried two sites listed there unsuccessfully. Both times I went through the whole process, got to the end and they threw in some BS excuse saying Im no longer eligible. For instance on one site I went through the process, thought I was finished and when it came time to file it said I was ineligible because my income was too low. The other time I tried filing, I got to the end and it said I was in the wrong state to be eligible for their service.Anyone know a reliable, no strings site to file a federal return? If you know of one that includes filing a state return for free that would be a nice bonus. Thanks

ArrayVoting Question: Can California Tax Return Forms be gotten online? For some reason I have gotten my employer W2 forms for federal but havent seen my California State copy. Can this form be downloaded online?
Also, whats the cheapest most reliable method of doing tax returns. Of course my radar is always on for the solicitors so I will assess and choose the least subjective option.
Thanks for your answer. I think the document I am referring to is the state copy per your explanation. I have always received it separately from the federal w2s and usually I just a couple hundreds from it. Any idea how I can get the state copy online?
ArrayVoting Question: Why didnt my donation amount show up as deductable on my tax return?I used the free online turbotax a couple days ago to file my taxes. I first entered my yearly income. Since I am going to school and living with my Mom, I didnt need to make a lot of income. I only made about $9,000. When I inputed my income it told me I have a federal turn about of $475. I then went on to deduct work expenses and donation items. However, after I inputted those, the federal return amount didnt change. I was wondering, is that because I have to have had made more than the standard deduction to actually have the donations effect the return amount?

Okay well Ireceived only 1 1098-T from one college I attended and the primary college I attended told me I wont be receiveing one because I had too much in Scholarships/Grants, thats strange.Well I can look online to see exactly what I received as a grant or scholarship so thats good news for this school but I have no idea if I am doing it correctly. My tuition costs for 2007 totaled to: $6763My primary school is the only school I received scholarships/grants for as listed:From 2007, I received $4000 in Scholarships, not grants. The grants I received were all Federal. Of the $4000 I used about $900 for books in Year 2007. So the difference is $3100 which did not have educational expenses. So how do I figure what is taxable and what do I do next.
